Espoo Game LAB – game development programme

The Espoo Game LAB brings together game industry enthusiasts as well as other creative minds to build successful teams.

Espoo Game LAB (EGL), is a unique game lab located in Otaniemi, Espoo. The EGL was created to foster growth in the game industry by equipping participants with the essential skills to either secure a job in the field or establish their own game companies.

The program offers tailored business support and guidance to help teams, startups and entrepreneurs succeed in the competitive game industry.

The program focuses on key areas such as game design, programming, content production, game production, and business development. Participants will gain the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to turn their ideas into sustainable businesses, with access to expert mentorship and a collaborative entrepreneurial environment.

This initiative is part of the Game Hub for SMEs in the Capital Region project, co-funded by the European Union.

Application period for autumn 2025

Our goal is to foster the growth of individuals, teams and early-stage startups in the game industry by providing targeted training, mentorship, and business support. 

Programme period: 1.9.2025–28.1.2026
Application period: 16.6.–3.8.2025 

Programme overview:  EGL3 is a 5-month pre-incubator and development programme for aspiring and early-stage game developers. Whether you're an experienced team or an ambitious solo developer, the programme is designed to help you move from idea to pitch, and beyond. The programme combines mentoring, structured lectures, business support, peer feedback and studio-style development sprints. The EGL3 culminates in a demo day in January 2026. 

Who can apply?

No need to be a gaming expert to apply – we welcome everyone with an interest in the game industry as well as a set of basic skills in areas like coding, game engines, design (2D/3D), UX/UI, music/sounds, sales, entrepreneurship, or leadership will give you an edge. You don’t need to have all these skills, but a solid core in some.

We're looking for applicants who showcase a strong interest or professional experience in their chosen field, coupled with a genuine passion for the industry. Game development is a dynamic field, demanding diverse skills, teamwork, and resilience to pressure.

We also welcome all companies and organisations in the gaming industry who want to participate in building the industry's top teams and support new companies on the road to sustainable growth.
