Our visual arts line - Viherlaakso upper secondary school
Viherlaakso Upper Secondary School's wide-ranging art education allows students to acquire good basic knowledge and skills in visual arts with both life and postgraduate studies in mind. Studying art subjects increases students’ motivation, self-awareness, well-being, emotional skills and general knowledge as well as creative problem solving and innovative thinking.
Our visual arts line is its own separate option available in the joint application process. The electronic joint application process takes place in the Studyinfo(external link, opens in a new window) -service. The application period for the joint application period for post-basic education in spring 2025 is 18.2.2025 - 18.3.2025.
Our visual arts line has 25 starting places in the joint application for 2025.
Admissions criteria
The lowest acceptable grade point average required in Espoo upper secondary schools in general is 7,00. Students are selected for upper secondary schools in the order of the grade point average in the applicant's comprehensive school certificate.
Our visual arts line is its own separate option available in the joint application process. Students accepted into our visual arts line are selected based on the grade point average in the applicant's comprehensive school certificate and the total score of a separate visual arts entrance examination.
The highest score possible for applicants’ grade point average as well as the entrance exam is 10 points making the total highest score possible 20 points.

Entrance examination for our visual arts line
All applicants to our visual arts line will be invited to an on-site entrance exam. Participation is mandatory in order to be accepted. The invitations for the spring 2025 entrance examination with enrollment instructions will be sent to the applicants during March.
The entrance exam for spring 2025 will be held on Thu 24.4.2025 at 12.30–17.30. . The back-up date for the entrance examination is on Fri 2.5.2025 at 8.30–13.30. The applicants must primarily take the entrance exam on the actual date 24.4. With a special permission from our principal, the entrance examination can be taken on the back-up date 2.5.

The visual arts entrance examination consists of two separate assignments. Materials are provided to all applicants by the school. Using any other materials is prohibited in order to ensure an equal starting point to all. The exam begins at 8:30. Applicants are given necessary instructions and both assignments to work on simultaneously. The order in which the assignments are worked on and finished is up to you. However, both assignments must be finished by 14:00. Breaks can be taken at your own discretion. Free lunch is served between 12-13. You are free to bring your own snacks as well. Our tutors will be there to assist you during the day.
The examination will be evaluated based on the implementation of given assignments in various ways. Our school’s two visual arts teachers Marja Laasasenaho and Päivi Tarkkonen will act as the assessors.
