Second Round - Materials for Reuse

The aim of the Second Round (Toinen kierros) project is to promote the reuse, management and life-cycle extension of existing furniture, items, materials and building components through circular and sharing economy solutions. The project runs from 1 April to 31 December 2026 and is implemented by the City of Espoo and co-funded by the EU.

The project develops and pilots new operating models and tools that promote the reuse of building components, furniture and materials and the coordination of related storage facilities within the City of Espoo’s operations.

At the end of the project:

  • Existing storage facilities that support reuse have been mapped, and the information has been compiled into a shared digital database.
  • The circulation of building components, as well as loose and fixed furniture, has been promoted through information sharing and pilot projects.
  • Professionals’ expertise in circular construction has increased.
  • An operating model and recommendations have been developed for the role of a storage and/or reuse coordinator, as well as for the use of the building component bank and other commercial marketplaces from a municipal perspective.
  • The project’s results, operating models, and lessons learned have been shared with different target groups.
