Street maintenance, situation on 16 February 2024
Rain is forecast for the weekend. The existing snow on the streets will turn into slush as a result of the rainfall, possible sleet and rising temperatures. On Sunday, the temperature will again drop below zero and all the snow and water on the streets will freeze.
Slippery streets and possible flooding
The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued a warning for rain-related floods in the Uusimaa region.
On Friday, we will take measures to prevent flooding. We will remove snow from stormwater drains and move snowbanks to allow water to flow away from streets. We will check areas known for flooding in advance and prepare for problems in other areas as well. It is likely that we will have to sort out water-related problems in many areas in Espoo on Saturday.
Streets will be slippery as a result of the rain, especially from Saturday night onwards as the temperature falls below zero. We will continue to prevent slipperiness all over the city throughout the weekend, but some areas may be slippery due to changing weather conditions, in spite of our measures.
Feedback on maintenance
Our customer service works closely with maintenance staff and informs them about the feedback received. Please note that sending us feedback will not speed up the ploughing of your street. All streets in Espoo are cleared in order, one area at a time, based on their pre-determined maintenance category.
We ask you to send your feedback directly through the city’s online feedback system(external link, opens in a new window). Both our feedback and telephone services are quite busy from time to time, and waiting times may be long.
If you can, also send us a photo of the site in question. Based on the photo, we will be able to assess the urgency of the situation, which will accelerate the processing of your feedback.
Trimble Feedback mobile app
You can also give location-based feedback through the Trimble Feedback mobile application(external link, opens in a new window). It is a quick way to send a message to customer service, for example concerning a need for maintenance. We go through all mobile feedback and forward it to experts who will take the necessary measures.
