Street maintenance, situation on 10 October 2024
The autumn storm caused problems across Espoo. The clearing of fallen trees may still impact traffic flow in some areas. The rain caused extensive flooding, especially in Karhusuo and Espoonlahti. Our maintenance staff has been clearing the debris and solving issues throughout the night.
The heavy rainfall caused flooding across Espoo. In Espoonlahti and along Länsiväylä, culverts had to be cleared of leaves, debris, and vegetation. The rescue department assisted by pumping flood waters into the stormwater network. There are still "Water over road" warning signs in the area this morning.
Bus services along Meritie have been disrupted due to flooding. The pedestrian and cycling path south of Länsiväylä is also closed due to the flooding of the Finnobäcken stream.
Karhuniityntie is closed due to severe flooding. We are doing our best to solve these problems.
Outlook towards the end of the week
Our street maintenance teams will continue flood prevention and clearing efforts at full capacity throughout the rest of the week.
Street drains, ditch grates, and culverts are being cleaned and, if necessary, dug out.
Property owners are responsible for cleaning and maintaining their driveway culverts.
We are clearing fallen trees from streets, roads and park paths as fast as we can.
Stone dust paths in parks are being gravelled and levelled, starting with the worst affected areas. The maintenance teams are aware of the most critical areas.
