Yölinnuntie and Yölinnunpuisto

Streets and trafficLeppävaara

The City of Espoo Public Works Department has started drawing up street and park plans for Yölinnuntie and Yölinnunpuisto. The planning area is located in the Lintuvaara (50.) city district in the Jääskelä local detailed plan area. The goal of the street planning is to enable new construction on the new small house plots on the northern side of the street. The Technical Services Committee approved the plans on 31 January 2024.

The arrangements presented for the planning area will be implemented as a high-quality entity suitable for a residential area. The area’s natural value and comfort as a living environment have been taking into consideration when planning the scales of the street and park walkway. The cross-sections of the street and walkway are equally well-suited to both urban and natural environment.

The cross-sloped and asphalt-covered Yölinnuntie roadway is 5.00 metres wide. The roadway will be reinforced with kerbstones. An 18-metre-long parking pocket for passenger cars will be constructed on the northern end of the roadway. The pocket will be 2,50 metres wide.

There is a turning point with a 14-metre diameter at the eastern end of Yölinnuntie.

The four-way junction between Yölinnuntie, Hämeenkyläntie and Päivälinnuntie on its western side includes a refuge island on the northern branch of Hämeenkyläntie. At the eastern end of the crossing, there is a pedestrian lane running along Yölinnuntie all the way to the eastern end of the roadway’s intersection curve. The intersection between Hämeenkyläntie and Yölinnuntie is designed for lorries up to 13 metres tall.

The rock dust coated, 3,50-metre wide walkway in Yölinnunpuisto has a cross slope on one side and drainage sinks.

A stormwater drain system will be constructed for the surface drainage of Yölinnuntie. The surface drainage of the park walkway will be carried out with shallow side ditches. The longitudinal gradients of Yölinnuntie and park walkway are sufficient to ensure functional surface drainage. HSY’s water main on Yölinnuntie and Yölinnunpuisto walkway will be renovated. No major work will be done on the existing wastewater sewage drain on Yölinnuntie.

Underground cable lines will be constructed on Yölinnuntie and Yölinnunpuisto walkway to serve the area’s telecommunications and energy networks and street and walkway illumination.

The two plots on the eastern end of Yölinnuntie play a major role in terms of cityscape, and any new construction, renovations and other measures that change the surroundings must be adapted to suit the local environment. The area is indicated in the detailed plan with sk-marking. The buildings in the area have maintained their original character and are good examples of the constructed environment of their era. The measures presented in the plan are targeted at street and park areas only, so the character of the plots remains unchanged.

The wearing course of Yölinnuntie roadway, parking pocket and pedestrian lane is made of asphalt. The kerbstones along the roadway and parking pocket are granite. In accordance with the local cityscape, the roadside areas along the street and the park walkway will be landscaped with forest floor, meadow or lawn. The roadway and park walkway will be illuminated with single-stemmed lamp posts placed along the roadway and walkway. The preliminary plan is to have 8-metre tall lamp posts along the roadway and 5–6-metre tall ones along the walkway.

In connection with the presented construction work, the roadside areas along Yölinnuntie and Yölinnunpuisto walkway will be landscaped to forest floor, meadow or lawn-covered areas.

According to the plan, the street and park walkway will complement the area’s pedestrian and bicycle connections and also add to its recreational use.

The solutions presented in the street and park plans will change the appearance of the area to more constructed and bring controlled functionality to the area.

The construction of streets, parks and other public utilities is scheduled to start during 2025.

Draft plans for the street and park will be made available on the City of Espoo’s Ota kantaa website for residents and other interested parties to view and comment during autumn 2023.

The Technical Services Committee approved the plans on 31 January 2024.
