The City of Espoo will commission plans for the replacement of the Tapiola bridge. On the bridge, Tapiolantie goes across Länsiväylä (National road 51). The bridge was completed in 1963 and broadened in 1994. An extensive condition inspection was carried out for the bridge, examining things such as the condition of the bridge tension system. Due to the corrosion damage observed in the tendons, the inspection recommends that the bridge be replaced. The carrying capacity of the bridge has been assessed. The assessment strived to take into account the damage in the bridge, and based on this assessment, the bridge has been set a weight limit.

Design

The current bridge will be dismantled. The new bridge will be a type of post-tensioned concrete cantilever slab bridge with a span of 2.5 +21.0 +21.0 + 2.5 m. The effective width of the bridge will be 18.85 m, which is the same as the current bridge. At the northern end of the bridge, a visual clearance will be established in the direction of the Länsiväylä ramp, which will improve the traffic safety of the intersection. The overhead clearance of the road running under the bridge will be increased to 5.0 metres in accordance with current requirements.

The construction of the bridge is preliminary scheduled for 2026. During the construction of the bridge, traffic will be cut off at the bridge and directed to other routes.
