Street planning for Kiviruukinaukio and Kiviruukinpiennar

Streets and trafficEspoonlahti

Espoo’s Public Works Department has begun preparing street plans for the Kiviruukinaukio square and Kiviruukinpientare. A versatile business, research and study project is under construction in the block area west of the Kiviruukinaukio square. The project also includes the construction of a new upper secondary school. The goal is to open the upper secondary school in 2027, and the construction of the Kiviruukinaukio square will enable safe transport connections to, for example, the Kivenlahti metro station.

Measures related to the nature wisdom, carbon neutrality and circular economy objectives presented in the Kiviruukki area’s development handbook (2024) are among the starting points for the planning of the Kiviruukinaukio square. For example, the plan proposes the establishment of a micro forest as well as adding versatile and multi-layered vegetation to the planning area.

The draft street plan will be available for commenting in the Otakantaa.fi service(external link, opens in a new window) from 21 October to 4 November 2025. Comments and questions about the draft can be submitted on the website.

After the draft phase, the proposal for the final street plan will be made available for public review 1.-15.12.2025. The parties concerned will receive a notice of the public review in the mail.

Construction of the square is expected to begin in summer 2026 at the earliest.
