Street and park planning in Mulby and Åminne detailed plan areas

Streets and trafficKauklahti

Espoo’s Public Works Department has started planning streets and parks in the Mulby and Åminne detailed plan areas. The streets in the area are mainly existing residential streets that will be renovated according to the detailed plan. Road safety and drainage will also be improved in the area. In addition, the process includes planning and building a new slow-speed street, Vesikelkantie. The structural layers of the streets will be replaced and the carriageways and turning areas will be asphalted and equipped with kerbs. Pavements will be built next to the carriageways depending on the space available in the street areas. The street lighting will be replaced. The Technical Services Committee approved the plans on 12 June 2024.

The area has a water supply and sewer network but no stormwater sewers. Street drainage is currently based on open ditches, and stormwater has caused problems in different parts of the area. In some places, stormwater has also run onto properties. The existing water supply and sewer network in the area will, as a rule, remain in place, but it may be necessary to move some of the pipes as a result of the street planning process. To improve street drainage and to tackle the stormwater problems, the city will build a new stormwater sewer system to which local properties must be connected in the future. Read more about stormwater management on the city website at www.espoo.fi/en/housing-and-building/building/stormwater.

A stone dust path will be planned and built in the Uraalinrinne park, on a slope between Åminnentie and Pulkkatie. The plan includes creating a depression next to the path for the purpose of stormwater management.

The project includes preparing street and park plans for the following streets and pedestrian and bicycle paths:

Koikorvenpolku (slow-speed street)

Kurtinmäenkuja

Kurtinmäentaival between Kurtinmäentie and Varsikengäntie

Kurtinmäentie

Mulbynmäki

Pulkkatie (slow-speed street)

Rannikontie

Vesikelkantie (slow-speed street)

Viirukallionpolku

Vionojantie

Åminnenmäki

Uraalinpolku (reserved for pedestrians and cyclists)

Uraalinrinne (park plan)

Åminnenranta between Aavasaksanpolku and the border of the plan area

Åminnentie between Juppinlaita and the turning area

The draft plans will be presented to the public 6.-21.5.2024. The interested parties will receive a separate invitation to the event. We hope that local residents and others interested in the area comment on the plans. After the draft plan stage, the street plans will be finalised and made available for public review later this year.
