Streets and trafficTapiola

Espoo’s Public Works Department has started preparing the general plan for the renovation of Oravannahkatori in Tapiola. Oravannahkatori is classified as a street area in the detailed plan. It is a small-scale shopping centre area near the centre of Tapiola and the neighbourhood centre of western Tapiola. The area was originally developed in the 1960s.

The two-storey buildings bordering Oravannahkatori to the south and east are designated as residential, commercial, and office blocks (AL-1) and are protected (sr-2) in the detailed plan for their “cultural-historical, architectural, or cityscape values”. Tapiola is a nationally significant built cultural environment (RKY).

The project will involve preparing a detailed general plan for a specific street area. The primary goal is to smarten up the area, making it visually more appealing, and to restore elements such as vegetation, lighting and structures (e.g. walls) to align with the current character of the area.

A walking tour of the area was organised for local residents and operators on 13 June 2024. A notification of the event was sent by post.

A draft of the general plan will be available for public comment on the otakantaa.fi website 12.-29.11.2024. You can access the otakantaa.fi service through this link.(external link, opens in a new window)

The schedule for more specific plans and construction is not yet known.
