Meritori and Aallokkoranta
Streets and trafficEspoonlahtiThe construction project covers the renovation of Meritori, Merivirta, Merikuja and Aallokkoranta. A new flood protection structure will be built. The promenades, streets and squares of the area will also be renovated during construction. The purpose of the protective structure is to prevent seawater from rising on the waterfront walkway at Aallokkoranta and Meritori and to protect nearby buildings from possible flooding. The structures extent and height are determined based on a sea flood survey conducted in the area. The first phase of the renovation began at the start of July.

Construction has started at the beginning of July with demolishing of structures at Aallokkoranta. The demolition phase includes the protection of preserved vegetation. Other structures will be protected in phases when necessary. During demolition, the old vegetation, old coatings, and concrete benches are removed, after which excavation work will begin according to the plan.
The construction area is fenced, and light traffic has been directed to go around the area with safe passages. Noise nuisance is caused by construction site traffic, goods traffic, and machine work throughout the construction period. Noise nuisances are managed by following the site's permitted working hours and avoiding unnecessary idling of machines. Streets connected to the work area will be cleaned if necessary.
Some work will be conducted on land and some from the sea. Work done from the waterside will be conducted according to a permit from the Centre for Economic Development, Transport, and the Environment between 1.9.-30.4. In Spring 2024 construction will focus primarily on Meritori’s surface structures.
The street plan was on display from 30 August to 13 September 2021.
The Technical Services Committee will decide on the plan in October 2021.
