Development of the intersection of Lähderannantie and Turuntie

Streets and trafficLeppävaara

The City of Espoo will develop the intersection of Lähderannantie and Turuntie to better meet current and future mobility needs in the growing city. The Public Works Department has started preparing the street plans for the development of the intersection. The aim is to plan, based on previous general plans, a functional overall solution that serves cyclists, pedestrians and vehicle traffic. The Technical Services Committee approved the plans on 13 December 2023.

Currently, the intersection has three pedestrian crossings and an overpass that is approaching the end of its life cycle. These connections will be replaced by three new underpasses, two of which will pass under Turuntie and one under Lähderannantie. The underpasses will make the intersection safer and more efficient for all modes of transport.

In the first phase of the project, the old overpass, which is in very poor condition, will be demolished. The demolition plans for the overpass were completed in January 2023, and the demolition will take place in the spring of 2023. After this, people will be able to cross Turuntie through the existing pedestrian crossings controlled by traffic lights. The pedestrian crossings are located on the western side of Lähderannantie and close to Herttuantie, some 300 metres to the east of the overpass that will be demolished. These routes will remain in use until the new underpasses have been constructed.

Once the plan is completed in 2024, the intersection will be improved and the underpasses constructed within the limits of the budget. The construction phase will begin at the earliest in 2024. The planning and construction schedules will be specified in 2023.

Once completed, the new and improved intersection will provide safer and more efficient connections for different modes of transport and support the development of the Kera area and the cycling network.
