Demolition and landscaping of Latokaskenpuisto playground
ParksEspoonlahtiThe City of Espoo has started planning the demolition of the Latokaskenpuisto playground. The playground equipment is old and nearing the end of its useful life from a safety perspective, so it is time for it to be removed. Our project has received a lot of feedback, and the demolition of the playground is strongly opposed in the feedback. We will therefore continue to collect information from park users to better understand the situation in the area. Upcoming inquiries will be communicated in the area and we will contact identified stakeholders. We thank everyone who participated for their valuable comments!

The demolition is based on the city’s playground programme, which aims to concentrate the area’s playground activities in the nearby Latokaski residents’ park, where a wider range of play equipment is available. After the playground has been demolished, the area will be landscaped into a small park for relaxation. The old park benches that are still in good condition will remain in place, and the park lighting will be replaced. The layout of the park paths will be improved and new vegetation will be added – including flowering trees and shrubs.
The draft park plan is available for comments on the Otakantaa.fi website(external link, opens in a new window) from 17 to 30 November 2025.
