Construction of Meritie and Meritenaukio

The construction project will include implementing the following in public areas:

- Meritie between Kaitaantie and Hyljemäenportti

- Meritienaukio (upper and lower level)

- Meritie road piling plates, support wall

- Syvänsalmensilta

- Syvänsalmenkatu and Hyljemäenportti intersection and street sections

- Lapiarinpolku section west of Syvänsalmensilta, Ridarinreitti section at Syvänsalmensilta and the Länsimetro metro centre, transfer of the Djupsundsbäcken stream channel in Syvänsalmenmetsä, the Syvänsalmenpuisto section, and the Havaintopolku culvert

In addition to the construction of street structures, the contract includes landscaping green areas, stone and landscape structures, water management network, technical networks, technological engineering structures, foundation reinforcements, lighting, and traffic control systems.

At this stage, the northern part of Meritie will be implemented with a narrowed cross-section between Kaitaantie and Syvänsalmensilta.

The emission values of natural stone materials used in the contract is also a point of focus.

The contract will also involve using recycled material supplied by the customer, consisting of crushed concrete from an old wastewater treatment plant plot.

Excavators will be utilising a digital model for excavation, which optimises the depth and width of the excavated area, reducing the amount of excavated land and extracted crushed rock. The purpose of these measures is to shorten the contract period and reduce the inconvenience caused to street users.

The carbon dioxide emissions of the contract will also be reduced by using renewable, fossil-free fuels in the earthworks machines and the earth-hauling trucks.

Due to the construction work, such as bridge construction, embankment, water management, base reinforcement and the open spaces built under the bridge, road traffic on Meritie will be diverted to enable the demanding street construction.  The diversion will run through Syväsalmenkatu-Lapintilakatu-Hyljetie while the work is ongoing.
