Construction of the Hepokorpi ski track and recreational outdoor trail

Streets and trafficEspoon keskus

The Hepokorvenkallio detailed plan entered into force on 8 November 2023. A data centre and a heat pump plant are being planned in the Högnäs district north of Ring III. The detailed plan and building permit for the power station site 65004 entered into force earlier, and construction work is underway. The Technical Services Committee approved the plans on 31 January 2024.

Description of the construction project

The contract involves building a ski track and recreational outdoor trail on the Hepokorvenreitti trail that crosses the previously implemented Hepokorvenkaari. The western part of Hepokorvenreitti joins the ski track and recreational outdoor trail implemented in the park area north of Bodbackanmetsä. The eastern part of Hepokorvenreitti will join the Ring Road III pedestrian and cycle path via the existing Hepokorvenportti underpass that goes under Ring Road III. The underpass will be illuminated and the edge ramps will be paved.

Excavators will be utilising a digital model for excavation, which optimises the depth and width of the excavated area, reducing the amount of excavated land and extracted crushed rock. The purpose of these measures is to shorten the contract period and reduce the inconvenience caused to street users.

The carbon dioxide emissions of the contract will also be reduced by using renewable, fossil-free fuels in the earthworks machines and the earth-hauling trucks.

Description of the design project

To meet the needs in the area, the Public Works Department is planning a street called Hepokorvenkaari, improvements to the existing Hepokorventie, new bus stops and a protective green area. Plans for the park area include a recreational route and a ski track running parallel to each other starting from the Hepokorvenportti underpass and connecting to the Oittaa ski track network. A parking area and a connecting track leading to the Oittaa ski track network are being planned for the junction of Paciuksentie and Puotismäentie.

The draft plans are available for review and comment on the Otakantaa website from 20 November 2023 to 4 December 2023. The plans will be made available for public review from 2 January to 16 January 2024. The Technical Services Committee approved the plans on 31 January 2024.
