People with disabilities

If you or someone close to you has a disability or a long-term illness or needs other special support in everyday life, a wide range of services and assistance is available in Espoo. Support is available, for example for education, hobbies, health, mobility, housing and managing everyday life.

Right to services and guidance

In Finland, people with disabilities have the right to live a normal life, including studying, working, and having a family. Various services support everyday life when living with a disability or illness.

These services are intended for people with a long-term disability or illness. A professional will assess your individual support needs together with you and, when necessary, your loved ones.

In Espoo, disability services are provided by the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.

Support for your child’s education and everyday life

In Finland, every child has the right to go to school and receive support for learning. Support is also available for children with disabilities, long-term illnesses or traits of autism spectrum disorder.

Espoo provides special needs education in Finnish for pupils with intellectual disabilities or severe autism.

Contact your nearest school or

Physical activity for special groups (adapted physical activity)

We organise adapted physical activity groups for individuals who cannot join regular classes due to a disability, illness, or otherwise reduced functional capacity.

In these groups, you can work out and meet others. You may bring an assistant with you.

We collaborate with associations and clubs, but participation in courses does not require membership.
