The Espoo City Planning Department organised an online discussion on the Uintiportti local detailed plan from 18 May to 16 August 2026. The discussion took place on the Voxit platform. The Uintiportti detailed plan amendment includes a swimming centre, an outdoor swimming pool and a parking facility.

More than 1,800 people participated in the online discussion. The participants expressed that the new indoor swimming pool is eagerly awaited. The participants felt that the indoor swimming pool should primarily be a high-quality water sports facility, but they also hoped for versatile activities for different users, such as fitness swimmers, water gymnastics participants and families with children. Almost all respondents supported the outdoor swimming pool.

The participants in the discussion lived in different parts of Espoo. Most of the respondents were aged 25–65, but the survey also reached people under 25 and over 65.

What are the expectations for the indoor swimming pool?

Those who participated in the discussion would like to see a high-quality indoor swimming pool that fits well into its surroundings. Many participants estimated that they would use the new indoor swimming pool more than the current one. The residents hoped that the new indoor swimming pool would primarily serve swimming and water sports. The swimming pool facility should be spacious and serve a wide range of users. The building should be accessible.

Residents especially hoped that as many of the area’s trees as possible would be preserved. Many participants considered it important to preserve the green views. Several participants would like to see a café or restaurant in the indoor swimming pool facility. More parking space was also needed. The participants also considered it important that the indoor swimming pool would remain accessible by public transport.

An outdoor swimming pool is desired, but without compromising the quality and functions of the indoor swimming pool

The participants in the online discussion supported the construction of the outdoor swimming pool and considered it an important additional service. In connection with the outdoor swimming pool, the participants wished for an area to relax and have a picnic on a summer day. The outdoor swimming pool idea is supported, but without compromising the quality or services of the indoor swimming pool.

The participants would like to see the current indoor swimming pool remain open until the new one is completed. The participants in the discussion did not support the idea of renovating the old indoor swimming pool, but instead preferred a new facility.

We also received several ideas, comments and wishes concerning the construction, equipment and maintenance of the indoor swimming pool. We will consider them at different stages of the planning of the swimming pool facility.
