Pick the best highlights of Espoo’s cultural autumn

Selections from the autumn programs of Espoo’s cultural venues, including free events:

• Exhibition Centre WeeGee, EMMA (Espoo Museum of Modern Art), and KAMU WeeGee are celebrating their 20th anniversary. Anniversary week takes place from 13 to 18 October, with events every day. On 13 October, WeeGee’s official 20th birthday, admission is free for everyone.
• The VocalEspoo 2026 festival combines different styles and art forms while celebrating the diversity of vocal music. A wide range of concerts will be held in Tapiola between 7 October and 15 November.

Espoo’s city orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, performs almost weekly at Tapiola Hall in the Espoo Cultural Centre. The autumn season includes a broad selection of concerts from the Tapiola Series, Indie Series, and After Work Series. The theme of this autumn’s festival is queer.

The Aurora Children’s Cultural Centre, located in Järvenperä, organizes events and workshops for children almost daily. Vindängen Hall in Tapiola also offers children’s concerts and theatre performances, especially in Swedish.

• The autumn program of Hevosenkenkä Theatre includes Nils Holgersson and the Wild Geese, Ghost Party, and Tatu and Patu as Detectives
• Children’s Weekend takes place on 21–22 November with events in all cultural centres and library facilities across Espoo.

• The program of & Espoo Theatre includes the contemporary circus performance Karkelot in a circus tent in Kivenlahti from 25 August to 3 October, and Saara Turunen’s trilogy &Revontuli during the autumn. Rakastavaisten kuoro (The Lovers’ Choir) premieres on 14 November.
• Kino Tapiola is a traditional single-screen neighborhood cinema known for its high-quality film program and cozy atmosphere. A wine bar is open on screening days from Wednesday to Sunday.

KAMU Espoo City Museum preserves, studies, and documents the history and cultural heritage of Espoo and its residents.

• Villa Museum Villa Rulludd tells the story of summer life and villa culture in Espoo. The villa complex is unique and served as the summer residence of the Kihlman cultural family for a century. The museum is open on the first Sunday of every month from 11:00 to 15:00.
• Glims Farmstead Museum winter opening hours (1 Sept–30 Apr): Tue–Fri 10:00–16:00, Sun 11:00–16:00. Closed Mondays and Saturdays. Admission is free on Wednesdays. The exhibition Poop Happens presents farm waste and its uses. The museum café and sheep welcome visitors.
• The renovated Lagstad School Museum is open to the public on the first Saturday of each month from 11:00 to 16:00 (5 Sept, 3 Oct, 7 Nov, 5 Dec).
• At KAMU WeeGee in Tapiola, visitors can explore newly renovated spaces through the free Big Spaces pop-up event series during August and September 2026. Also on display is Noise and Action – Rock Music and Youth in Espoo in the 1970s and 1980s. Free admission every Friday from 15:00 onward.

EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art(external link, opens in a new window)

• Howard Smith’s retrospective exhibition, opened on 5 September, is part of EMMA’s series highlighting classics and innovators of modernism. It showcases an artist whose contribution to Finnish art and design has been significant.
• As part of EMMA’s 20th anniversary year, the Saastamoinen Foundation Collection will reopen in a renewed form on 23 October, curated by EMMA Director Krist Gruijthuijsen.

EMMA offers free admission every Friday from 15:00 onward. On the first Friday of every month, the museum remains open until 21:00.

Gallen-Kallela Museum(external link, opens in a new window)

• The exhibition Sunshine and Joy of Life – Color Art of the 1910s is open until 18 October.

Helinä Rautavaara Museum(external link, opens in a new window)

• Located in Entresse, Espoo Centre, the museum offers free admission. Its exhibition E zor amendar – The Power Within Us presents the lives of Roma people in Eastern Europe.

The Museum of Play(external link, opens in a new window)

• The special exhibition Time Travel Adventure 1950 – Childhood and Youth in the Past, Present and Future is on display from 23 April 2026 to 26 March 2028.

Clock and Jewellery Museum Kruunu(external link, opens in a new window)

• Located in Tapiola, Kruunu is the only museum in the Nordic countries specializing in clocks and jewellery. On display until 13 September are the final projects of goldsmith graduates from Axxell Överby. The exhibition Traces of Craft continues until September 2027.
• Opening hours: Wed–Sat 11:00–17:00, Sun 10:00–17:00.

The Espoo Book Festival will be held on 14 November at Lippulaiva Library. Espoo’s regional libraries, located in Espoo Centre, Matinkylä, Espoonlahti, Leppävaara, and Tapiola, offer numerous events and workshops throughout the autumn.
