KAMU WeeGee Goes Big Spaces!
KAMU Espoo City Museum is currently renewing its exhibitions and activities at the WeeGee Exhibition Centre. Before construction begins on the permanent Espoo exhibition, which will open in early 2027 in our expanded museum spaces, visitors will have a unique opportunity to experience our transforming premises during the free Big Spaces pop-up event series in August and September 2026.
Our exhibition space, currently standing empty, will temporarily open for three days, offering a diverse programme in collaboration with various cultural organisations. The events focus on film, architecture and theatre.
Through this temporary use of the space, we aim to reach new audiences and lower the threshold for engaging with museum and cultural content.
All events are free of charge, and the venue is fully accessible.

Friday, 28 August 2026 Crip Ciné at KAMU – Film Screenings at 3:15 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm
Current. Thought-provoking. Joyful. Critical.
Crip Ciné, a themed programme that has been part of Espoo Ciné for the past five years, brings documentaries and fiction films about the lives of people with disabilities to the big screen, as well as works by filmmakers with disabilities that challenge stereotypes surrounding disability.
Free pop-up screenings at KAMU WeeGee. The Junior screenings, 3:15 pm and 4:00 pm, are suitable for all ages. The two later screenings are rated 7+. The films are subtitled in Finnish. The venue is fully accessible.
Friday, 11 September 2026 WeeGeeZine – Anyone Can Publish! 4:00–6:30 pm
Can anyone create their own architecture magazine, design poster, postcard or collage?
Zines and independent small-scale publications have historically played an important role in art, culture and community life, providing a platform for topics that often remain hidden behind institutional walls.
During KAMU's zine-themed afternoon, participants will explore the connections between architecture, design and independent publishing. In a hands-on workshop, they will experiment with transforming the spaces and history of the WeeGee building into visual culture.
Architect and Doctor of Philosophy Mika Savela will introduce the day's theme with an informal talk at 4:00 pm in Finnish and English. During the workshop, participants will work with archival images of the WeeGee building from KAMU's collections and explore how architecture zines and independent publishing can inspire new interpretations of the building, its architectural details, its history, and the memories and stories connected to it.
Friday, 25 September 2026 Theatre Limusiini presents: Yhden kukkaron Matit 5:00–6:30 pm
A musical theatre performance by young people for young people.
Life and different financial circumstances have driven four former upper secondary school friends apart. Each of them struggles with loneliness in their own way. When they finally reunite years later, they have the chance to truly get to know one another again.
Theatre Limusiini's musical theatre production Yhden kukkaron Matit in Finnish seeks to bridge the divide created by social polarisation and economic inequality.
Created collaboratively by four performers, the production combines musical theatre and circus arts. The script emerged from the group's shared discussions and draws on each performer's individual strengths. All four performers also take part in the directing process.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Target audience: teenagers and young adults, recommended for ages 12+
Content warnings: strong language, substance use, references to sexual harassment, and sex work.
