Application period for detached house plots begins in Espoo – 16 plots available
This autumn, the City of Espoo is once again organising a self-build plot draw for residents. The application period is 1 September–6 October. Six plots had to be removed from the list of available plots due to the presence of brick waste.
A total of 16 plots are available in popular low-rise residential areas. Four plots are located in Kurttila. Three of these are located in the coastal area of Kallvik and one in the Mäkitupa area. Three plots are in Perusmäki, three in Kalajärvi, two in Henttaa, and two in Lintuvaara. Latokaski and Kilo both have one plot available.
Originally, 22 plots were to be included, but Espoo removed six plots in Kallvik due to the need for soil cleanup. These plots will become available for application later, once the cleanup work has been completed.
Applicants can choose whether they wish to lease or purchase the plot. In the previous application round in autumn 2024, the majority of plot recipients decided to lease their plot.
The plot sizes vary from 687 to 1,384 square metres with a permitted building volume of 137–225 gross square metres. More information on the plots and the plot application process is available on the City of Espoo’s website.
Updated application process
The application process has been updated so that applicants must rank the plots in order of preference already at the application phase. In previous years, applicants selected plots at separate plot selection events in the order determined by their draw numbers. This practice has now been discontinued in order to streamline the process.
The terms have also been amended so that the city will not allocate a plot to an applicant who has already received an undeveloped plot within the past five years.
By applying for a plot, the applicant agrees to pay a reservation fee if they receive a plot reservation notification after the draw.
The selection of plot recipients is based on a draw, in which applicants from Espoo will be given priority.
The Business and Competitiveness Subcommittee decided on this plot application round and its terms in May 2025.
