Two major sports events in Espoo in August: Kaleva Games and Week of Finnish Championship
The Kaleva Games(external link, opens in a new window) will be held at Leppävaara Sports Park between 1 and 3 August. The Week of Finnish Championships(external link, opens in a new window) in turn will be held between 14 and 17 August at Leppävaara Sports Park and in the Oittaa outdoor recreation area.
First, athletes will contest Finnish championships in athletics at the Kaleva Games. During the Week of Finnish Championships, Finnish championships in 24 different sports will be contested and visitors will have a chance to try out different sports for free at the events. The competitions of all sports during the Week of the Finnish Championships have free entry to the spectator areas.
The competitions bring a large number of visitors to Leppävaara and Oittaa and also affect parking arrangements in these areas. We recommend using public transport to get to the events.
Impact of the Kaleva Games on the Leppävaara Sports Park area
- 1–3 August: During the Kaleva Games, parking will be allowed only in the Vanha Maantie parking area. Parking in the Vanha Maantie parking area is subject to a fee. The Veräjäpellonkatu parking area will not be available to visitors of the Kaleva Games.
- Following sports facilities have been reserved only for the Kaleva Games:
- 21 July–4 August: Stadium of Leppävaara Sports Park
- 21 July–10 August: Artificial turf field 1 of Leppävaara Sports Park, pitch 1&2
- 28 July–4 August: Gym of Leppävaara Sports Park
- 31 July–3 August: Artificial turf field 2 of Leppävaara Sports Park, pitch 1&2
- 31 July–3 August: Training area for athletics throwing sports at Leppävaara Sports Park
Impact of the Week of Finnish Championships on the Leppävaara Sports Park area
Changes to routes and traffic arrangements:
- Veräjäpellonkatu will be closed to traffic between Loviselundinpolku and the event square from Monday 11 August to Monday 18 August.
- Triathlon will cause changes to the bicycle and walking routes at Leppävaara Sports Park on Saturday 16 August. For example, Kuntokihara will be closed.
- 3D archery will cause changes to the bicycle and walking routes at Leppävaara Sports Park near the throwing area and the snowmaking site on Sunday 17 August.

Changes to parking:
- The parking area between Veräjäpellonkatu and the outdoor swimming pool will not be available to the public between 15 and 17 August.
- The parking areas of the Finnish School of Watchmaking and Laurea will be available to the public from 16 to 17 August.
- The number of disabled parking spaces has been increased in the Maantiepelto parking area.
Changes to the outdoor swimming pool opening hours:
- The outdoor swimming pool will be used by the Week of Finnish Championships from Friday to Sunday 15–17 August, when the outdoor swimming pool will host the beach water polo and triathlon competitions.
- Entry to the spectator stands at the outdoor swimming pool will be free of charge. Spectators will be able to enter the stands from the event square.
Impact of the Week of Finnish Championships on the Oittaa outdoor recreation area
- Oittaa beach will be used by the Week of Finnish Championships between 14 and 17 August. For example, the competitions in classic rowing, SUP paddling and canoeing will be organised at the beach. There is free entry to the spectator stands on the beach. If you want to go swimming, we recommend that you go to other beaches with lifeguards in Espoo.
- Please note! The Oittaa outdoor recreation area and Kunnarlantie may become congested at times between Friday and Sunday 15–17 August. There will also be trailers and boat transports moving in the area.
