A new report summarises interaction on the draft master plan: Read what Espoo residents were told about the draft and what was discussed during the public review period
How was the draft of the Espoo Master Plan 2060 presented to residents? What kind of discussions were held about it at resident events, workshops and among young people? A recent report compiles the information on the collaboration and interaction in the draft master plan process. The report has only been published in Finnish.
The report describes how communication and interaction have been carried out during the political consideration of the draft master plan and while the plan was available for public review. It also contains a summary of the discussions at the interaction events.
The report describes, in particular, resident events and resident association workshops held during the time the draft was available for public review. The report also includes a section on the contribution of children and young people in the drafting of the master plan. Towards the end of the report, there are regional highlights of written opinions submitted by residents. Replies to the submitted opinions will be given at a later stage when the proposal stage is available for public review.
The draft of the master plan was first discussed by the Espoo City Planning Committee on 28 February 2024. The draft plan was available for public review and for residents to comment on during the period 3 June – 3 September 2024. The now published report thus covers the period from spring 2023 to September 2024. Interaction in the previous stages of the process has been compiled into separate reports.
Thoughts of residents have continued to be heard after the Master Plan’s public review period. The Idea Sprint for Espoo Residents is currently under way. During the sprint residents will brainstorm to come up with the best possible future urban centres in Espoo. The final results will be used in the preparation of the master plan proposal, as will all feedback submitted by residents so far. An exhibition on the results of the Idea Sprint is also planned for August and an event for Espoo Day on 30 August 2025.

What’s this all about?
A city-wide master plan for 2060 will be drawn up for Espoo. It will anticipate the development of the city in the coming decades. The plan was initiated on 7 September 2022, and its objectives were approved on 13 March 2023. The draft of the City of Espoo Master Plan 2060 was available for public review from 3 June to 3 September 2024. A master plan proposal is currently being prepared.
