In the Crowdsorsa game, the work is documented by taking a video of the target area before and after removing the invasive plants. The reward is based on the species, the size of the cleared area, and the plant density within the area. Most of the removed plants were lupines.Photo: Jouko Rikkinen

Crowdsorsa-sovellus oli tänä kesänä toista kertaa käytössä Espoon vieraslajien torjunnassa. Kyseessä on mobiilipeli, jota pelaamalla kuntalaiset voivat ansaita rahaa torjumalla komealupiinia ja jättipalsamia. Torjuntapalkkio määräytyy esiintymän pinta-alan, tiheyden ja lajin perusteella.

This year, new areas with lupines or Himalayan balsam were added to the game. In total, plants were removed from an area of about 122,000 m² and the total number of cleared areas was 1,030. There were 250 active participants. The highest reward paid to a single participant was over EUR 1,400. The average reward was EUR 59.55.

Compared to last year’s results, the 2024 campaign was clearly more effective, as evidenced by the increase in participant numbers and the size and number of cleared areas. The Crowdsorsa app has proven to be an effective tool in the fight against invasive species. It engages residents and raises awareness about the harmful effects of invasive species. The app was particularly popular among young people, with teenagers being the largest user group.
