A detailed plan will be prepared for the Träskända Manor area in Järvenperä, Espoo. The aim is to renovate the buildings in the manor area and make them available for active use by city residents. The plan area is a nationally significant built cultural environment and included in a nature reserve in almost its entirety. No new construction is planned in the area.

The plan area covers the entire area of the manor park on both sides of the Glimsinjoki river. The entire area, except for its northernmost corner, is a nature reserve. A key area of the plan is the area north of the river where most of the buildings are located. Surveys will also be extended to the area south of the river, so that possible impacts can be updated to the plan regulations. The purpose is to renovate the manor area and its buildings so that they can be used as a comfortable recreation area open to everyone.

The historical manor area of Träskända is located at the southwestern end of Lake Pitkäjärvi in Espoo, along the Glimsinjoki river and the great Rantatie road. The area includes several buildings, including a two-storey classical main building from the 1920s. Park buildings include a neo-Gothic granary designed by C.L. Engel and an open classical round temple from the 1820s.

The manor area came into the possession of the City of Espoo in the 1920s, when the building was turned into a nursing home. The operations of the nursing home continued until 2005, and since then the main building has been empty for almost 20 years. The façades and roof of the manor’s main building were renovated in summer 2023.

Plan enables wider operating conditions for manor area buildings

The aim of the new detailed plan is to enable service operations in the buildings in the area of Träskända Manor. These operations could be accommodation, restaurant, conference, training, exercise or recreation services. The largest building in the area is the old municipal home, or Aurorakoti, built near the main building in the 1950s. It now provides facilities to small entrepreneurs and artists who can work in the premises on an indefinite basis.

The Business and Competitiveness Subcommittee of the City Board granted a planning reservation to Chene Hotel Oy on 5 February 2024. The goal of the project is to develop the manor park and buildings.

History and diverse nature meet in Träskända manor park

The manor park is a nationally valuable cultural and historical environment and one of the oldest nature reserves in Espoo. The manor park is a popular outdoor area and an important local environment for the area’s residents. The manor’s extensive park area consists of three parts: a landscape park, a park forest and a natural forest, which is the most natural part of the park. The manor’s garden and park areas will continue to be a space open to everyone.

Detailed planning will start with the preparation of a participation and assessment scheme, which will be announced on 22 May 2024. The participation and assessment scheme will be available for public review from 27 May to 25 June 2024. A planning walk will be organised in Träskända on 10 June 2024.

The preparation of the plan proposal begins after the public review of the participation and assessment scheme. The plan proposal will be discussed by the City Planning Committee in 2025. The City Planning Committee decides on making the plan proposal available for public review. The City Planning Department will announce when the plan will be made available for public review with a detailed plan announcement, on the plan web page and by letter to the neighbours.
