Espoo to sell a nursing home building in Vanhakartano

The City of Espoo will sell a nursing home building in Vanhakartano through a bidding competition. The buyer can buy or lease the plot from the city. The buyer must use the site for the purpose specified in the detailed plan (YS 6). According to the detailed plan, the buildings on the plot must house some type of social service-related activity, such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation, care for the elderly, or child welfare activities.

The site is located in Vanhakartano at Vanhakartanontie 27, 02920 Espoo. The area of the plot, approximately 4,500 square metres, will be specified in connection with the plan amendment.

The plot is bordered by Vanhankartanontie in the east and a park area used for agriculture in the west.

A nursing home building requiring renovation is located on the plot. The gross floor area of the building, completed in 1987, is approximately 682 square metres. The facilities include staff facilities, a dining room, hobby and sauna facilities, and shared apartments. In shared apartments, residents have their own rooms but share a kitchen and bathrooms. Nursing home activities in the building ended in the summer of 2022.

The buyer can, if they so wish, demolish the building and build a new one in its place. The permitted building volume on the plot is 1,000 gross square metres.

The bidding period starts on 18 December 2023. Bids must be submitted by 12:00 on 18 January 2024 to the City of Espoo Registry Office. Further information on the site and the application procedure is available on the espoo.fi website (in Finnish).

The decision on the sale and lease will be made by the Business and Competitiveness Subcommittee of the City Board.
