The City of Espoo encourages housing companies in Matinkylä, which located south of Länsiväylä, to participate in a project to seek solutions for the low-carbon development of properties in the area.

The TYKKI project, which focuses on the low-carbon development of properties and suburbs through neighbourhood cooperation, will launch in the spring of 2023. The project is a continuation of the 2020-21 Taloyhtiöklubi project (only in Finnish), in which Matinkylä was one of the target areas. Scheduled to run until the end of 2024, the project will enable the further development of housing company network activities in Matinkylä, which is located in the area south of the Länsiväylä motorway. The project focuses on an area with approximately one hundred apartment block companies built between 1960 and 1980.

The project focuses on supporting the change in lifecycle-wise property management and low-carbon solutions in housing companies. The aim is to increase the systematic nature of energy use and repairs, provide advice on agile energy-efficiency measures and information-based development, promote the circular economy and support cooperation and peer learning.

"The housing company network formed in the project offers a great opportunity to discuss sustainable development strategies in the daily lives of residents with the city. The objectives also include the development needs of parking and accessibility, housing company-based infill development, ‘green block’ and many other issues concerning the development of the area," says project head Kai Fogelholm of the City of Espoo.

Cooperation at the centre of development

The activities of the project are not limited to cooperation between housing companies and the City of Espoo. For example, the City of Vantaa launched its own parallel project, whose aim is to organise joint network meetings and training for housing companies to support the project work of both cities. The partnership network also includes HSY's Climateinfo, with which solutions are sought for the development of energy advice, training and communications. The cooperation network also provides companies with an excellent framework for creating business models that support the green transition. There will also be close cooperation with the local real estate management companies and the district association.

"There is enormous untapped potential at all levels in the cooperation of housing companies. It’s great that the Taloyhtiöklubi activities can now be continued and further developed with the housing companies and other actors in the City of Espoo and Matinkylä district," says Kimmo Karvinen, head of operational development at Good House Oy.

Fogelholm encourages housing companies in the area to participate in the project. "Housing company cooperation is not only economically wise but also very inspiring. By joining us right away, housing companies can best influence the content of development work," says Fogelholm.
