Construction of the Kivenlahti hybrid arena begins: the sports centre is part of the wider development of the area

The services in Kivenlahti will improve when the sports, cultural and event centre called Hybridiarena is completed. The City of Espoo and the property company Kivenlahden Sport Center responsible for the project, signed a land rental agreement last week.
The Hybridiarena is part of the wider development of the Kivenlahti area. A business centre will be built on Höyrylaivantie, which will bring new services to the area. The business centre will also be connected to the metro station's second entrance. Residential buildings are planned in the vicinity of the metro station.
"It is great that the reforms in the centre of Kivenlahti are progressing. The park-and-ride car park was completed this spring, and the construction of the Hybridiarena will begin soon. The business centre is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2025. The business centre will also hold facilities for Laurea University of Applied Sciences," says Project Manager Hilkka Julkunen from the City of Espoo.
The construction of the Hybridiarena will begin in May and it is expected to be completed in autumn 2024.
"The plot is already prepared, so the actual construction work can be started soon," says Heimo Välinen, talousneuvos (honorary title for people with accomplishments in economics) and Property Developer, who owns the Kivenlahti Sport Center.
The over 15,000 square metre arena will host a wide range of sports facilities, including group sports facilities, padel courts, gyms, ice hockey skill training centre, dance studios, e-sports centre and an arena with a stand that can accommodate between 1,500 and 1,800 people. The facilities are also great for organising cultural or business events, for example.
The arena will have a café, a restaurant and catering services, as well as a rooftop terrace, at an altitude of 40 metres, with an outdoor bar, a restaurant and a glass-covered swimming pool.
Kivenlahti is located by excellent transport connections. It can be reached by metro or bus. Those travelling by car, can park in the new car park next to the future arena. There are also places for bicycles at the arena.
The construction of the Hybridiarena was intended to begin earlier, but the COVID-19, the war and the rise in interest rates caused delays.
