City bike season starts on 1 April despite the changeable weather

1. City bikes do not have studded tires so they are not suitable for icy or snowy roads. Walk the bike if you come across a slippery section of road.
   
2. Wear a helmet when riding a city bike.
   
3. As the weather conditions keep changing, please ride carefully and appropriately for the conditions. As a city biker, you are responsible for taking the weather conditions into account and riding carefully.
   
4. Use the Journey Planner to check if a city bike station is in use. Due to the snowy winter, some bike stations will not be installed by 1 April. The remaining stations will be installed as soon as the snow conditions permit. Use the Journey Planner to see bike stations in use, number of bikes and routes to the stations in real-time.
   
5. If snow prevents the use of a docking station, you can return a bike next to the station. You can return the bike to a full station, if the “Return” option is available on the bike’s screen. Pull the cable lock out of the handlebar, wrap it around another city bike and snap it into place in the slot in the body of the bike you are returning.

You can buy passes for city bikes in Helsinki and Espoo on the city bike website(external link, opens in a new window). A pass for the entire seven-month cycling season costs EUR 35. Once the season starts, you can also buy passes for shorter periods. The daily and weekly passes cost EUR 5 and EUR 10, respectively. This spring we are introducing an auto-renewing monthly subscription for EUR 7/month.

The city bike network includes nearly 4,600 bikes in Helsinki and Espoo. There are 347 bike stations in Helsinki and 110 in Espoo.

You need an HSL account(external link, opens in a new window) (external link, opens in a new window)to register for the city bike service for Helsinki and Espoo. You can register and buy passes at hsl.fi/en/citybikes(external link, opens in a new window). When you register, you need to provide your debit/credit card details and set a four-digit PIN code. The system will provide you with a personal cyclist ID. You need your cyclist ID and PIN code every time you pick up a bike at a bike station. If you like, you can replace the cyclist ID with your HSL card.
