Smoking bans under the Tobacco Act (549/2016)

22.2.2023 12.56

At the beginning of 2022, smoking bans were introduced at public beaches, playgrounds, and outdoor areas of institutions providing care for children aged under 18 in compliance with the Child Welfare Act or the Mental Health Act.

Previously, smoking had already been banned in workplaces (indoors), public buildings, public transport, auditoriums and other spectator areas at public events, indoor and outdoor areas of day care centres or educational institutions providing pre-primary, basic, vocational or general upper secondary education, and private vehicles with anyone under the age of 15 present in the vehicle.

Non-smoking areas must be equipped with a ‘no smoking’ sign. The sign must be placed in an easily visible location.

Smoking and the use of smokeless tobacco products are prohibited in non-smoking areas.
