Anna Kaneelina, a rising star of the Estonian indie music scene, and the American jazz singer-songwriter China Moses will be seen as international guests. The programme also includes the legendary Akimowskaja Sisters offering swinging Latin rhythms, a lecture about the life of Aurora Karamzin and a concert by Erja Lyytinen.

Espoo’s Event and Cultural Services wants to highlight the wonderful range of artists performing on International Women’s Day on 8 March but also remind everyone that women are still under-represented in the music scene (see Teosto’s research link at the bottom of the page in Finnish). We want to celebrate the various forms of femininity and the progress made in the field of gender equality, not forgetting the members of our society who still face discrimination.

“When we plan the programme for Sello Hall together with the producers, we aim to find a balance between many different aspects. Is the programme topical and interesting? Does it include culture for audiences of different ages? And are professionals of all genders represented on the performer lists? It is still a statistical fact that mainly male musicians take the stage at rhythm music and jazz concerts. Our important task is to highlight non-male performers as well. March is women’s month,” says Sello Hall’s Production Manager Henna Salo.

Below you can find some of our women’s month tips. Welcome to Espoo’s cultural venues!
