Careful out there: more snow on the way

More snowfall will be arriving in Finland from the west on Friday. The snowstorm will intensify towards the evening and the winds will pick up speed. Residents of Espoo should prepare for a large amount of snow as well as heavy winds.
Because the snow cover in Espoo increased considerably during the Valtteri storm last weekend, street maintenance is still not finished clearing all of the roads. There may still be snow deposits in courtyards and parking areas from the previous snowstorm.
Property owners must ensure that rescue routes, in particular, are accessible. Rescue routes must be kept in an accessible condition even in challenging winter conditions.
We will be updating the situation of street maintenance in the City of Espoo on our website from Monday to Friday. A link to the most recent summary in Finnish can be found below the “Ajankohtaista” (what’s on) heading on the Liikenne ja kadut (transport and streets) page.
Reserve sufficient time for travel and moving about
Anyone moving about outdoors needs to have patience right now. You must be especially careful around ploughing machinery − you should not let children near approaching heavy machinery, for example.
Driving conditions will be very poor, even dangerous, in many parts of Uusimaa on Friday and Saturday. Reserve sufficient time for travelling and moving and pay attention to your surroundings in traffic, regardless of whether you are in your car, on your bike, on foot or skiing. When travelling from A to B, focus on moving about and do not look at your smartphone, for example.
Avoid unnecessary travel. You should, for example, do your grocery shopping before the snowstorm hits.
