The purpose of the monitoring group is to monitor and support the launch of the wellbeing services county’s operations and administration. It held its first meeting on 6 October 2021.

Currently, Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county is creating a change organisation, economic plans and a roadmap through the transformation. A cooperation body has been formed, and discussion forums and information channels have been established for the change. An interim preparatory body is in charge of the preparations and has been convening since the end of August.

Schedule, IT systems and funding causing concerns

The biggest risks involved in the preparations include the tight schedule, IT systems and lack of funding. For example, there is very little time for IT system procurement and the integration of customer and patient record systems. Furthermore, all the wellbeing services counties are carrying our significant changes simultaneously, which puts a strain on HR and other resources. These themes were discussed at the first meeting of Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county’s political monitoring group on 6 October 2021.

The monitoring group stated its concerns about the IT system costs and funding, the patient safety and data security aspects of integrating patient record systems, as well as the services available to residents during the transition when the county takes over the responsibility for providing services from the municipalities.

Safeguarding residents’ services takes priority

The chair of the interim preparatory body, Sanna Svahn, stated that the most important element is to ensure continued services to the residents. The aim is to maintain all functioning service chains during the transition and develop them further together.

The monitoring group will revisit these themes at its future meetings. The next meetings will take place on 10 November and 9 December.
