Omaolo offers help and instructions for treating a urinary tract infection

Espoo has introduced the Omaolo symptom checker for assessing the symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Omaolo offers advice on how you can treat the symptoms of a urinary tract infection without having to call or visit your health centre. Use the symptom checker if you get a burning sensation when you urinate or if you need to urinate more often than usual. This means, for example, that you have to go to the bathroom more often than you normally do. The symptom checker will help you assess what kind of treatment you should seek, when you should seek it, and how you can treat your symptoms. The service is based on scientific data such as the Current Care Guidelines. You may, for example, receive a prescription for antibiotics, which will be automatically sent to the pharmacies’ information system. If necessary, the service will instruct you to contact your health centre. Sending your answers to a health care professional requires strong identification (online banking codes or mobile ID).

The symptom checker is intended for women aged 18 to 75 because it is based on research data collected from that age group. Women in other age groups and men should see a health care professional to get an assessment of their symptoms and the treatment needed.

In the Omaolo online service, you can find social and health services quickly and accessibly around the clock. You can use Omaolo to assess a single symptom or a health problem. Based on your answers, you will receive a recommendation on what to do and treatment instructions. The Omaolo recommendations are always personalised and based on the most up-to-date scientific evidence or nationally determined criteria.
