Espoo stops giving Moderna vaccines to under 30-year-old men
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has advised that the Moderna coronavirus vaccine should not be administered to under 30-year-old men.
This is a precautionary measure due to an increased risk of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle). Even though the risk of myocarditis is known to be very low based on research and follow-up and most cases are mild, the use of the vaccine has been suspended for this group.
If you are an under 30-year-old man and have received one dose of the Moderna vaccine, you can get the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty mRNA vaccine as your second dose at the Iso Omena vaccination site or at one of the pop-up vaccination sites.
You can visit the Iso Omena vaccination site without booking an appointment from Monday to Friday 9:30–11:30 and 12:15–15:00 You can also book an appointment online at bookcovidvaccine.fi or by calling Espoo’s appointment booking number for coronavirus vaccinations, tel. 09 816 34800 (Mon–Fri 8:00–18:00).
This week, you can also get vaccinated without booking an appointment at the following locations:
- Sello Library, Thursday 10:00–18:00
- Entresse Library, Friday 10:00–18:00
- Kivenlahti community centre Kivenkolo, Friday 10:00–15:00
In Espoo, Moderna vaccines have been given at schools and pop-up vaccination sites. As of today, the Pfizer vaccine is also available at the pop-up sites.
