Espoo resident Juha Kantakoski has been photographing the life of a wolf pack in Kuhmo since 2004. The wolves have been able to live free from human interference, as their territory is mainly in the border zone and on the Russian side.

The wolf pack consists of an alpha pair and their offspring. At present, in addition to the alpha pair, the pack includes eight cubs born in the spring and two cubs from last year’s litter of five.

The pictures of the wolves have been taken from hides mainly in the autumn when the cubs are at their bravest. The exhibition features photographs from the past ten years.

Juha Kantakoski has been active in nature photography for 30 years and is a member of the Finnish Nature Photographers Association. The photographer will be present at the exhibition on two Sundays, 12 September and 3 October 2021 (13:00–15:00). He will be telling (by Finnish) visitors about his encounters with the wolves.

Villa Elfvik will also display information compiled by the LIFE BOREALWOLF -project(external link, opens in a new window) on the role of the wolf in the ecosystem and the relationship between wolves and humans. On the second floor, in the Badger’s Forest, you can walk on top of tracks of wolves and other large predators.

The Nature House is open Mon–Fri 9:00–16:00 and Sat–Sun 10:00–16:00. The Nature House’s winter season will begin in October. As of 1 October, the Nature House will be open Mon–Fri 9:00–15:00 and Sun 10:00–16:00. Café Elfvik is open on weekends whenever the Nature House is open.
