Kivenlahti – a gateway to the capital region

Kivenlahti is a rapidly growing and developing area that offers a good environment for both business activities and housing.

Located in western Espoo, the Kivenlahti district by the sea is home to about 8,000 residents, and the number is expected to grow to 20,000 by 2060. The metro connects Kivenlahti to other parts of Espoo and Helsinki.

In the future, a large number of cleantech and recycling companies will be operating in the Kiviruukki area on the northern side of the Länsiväylä motorway. One of those already operating in the area is VTT Bioruukki, a pilot centre and innovation platform for bio-based products. Two educational institutions – Omnia (the Joint Authority of Education in the Espoo Region) and Kiviruukin lukio – will also have their new premises in Kiviruukki.

Leisure facilities include a marina, shops and restaurants. Services in Kivenlahti improved even further when the private sports, cultural and event centre Hybridiarena Hype was completed in May 2025. The arena features a variety of sports facilities, a café, a restaurant, catering services and a rooftop terrace with a swimming pool.

Kivenlahti has excellent public transport connections, and the area is also easy to reach by car. There is a parking facility with spaces for 650 cars. In the summer, boats run from Kivenlahti to nearby recreational islands.

The journey from the centre of Helsinki to Kivenlahti takes about 30 minutes by metro. It takes about 35 minutes to reach Helsinki Airport by car. The Tapiola urban centre is located a 15-minute metro ride away, and Espoon keskus can be reached in 20 minutes by bus.
