Espoo is looking for partners for the development of central Leppävaara

The City of Espoo is looking for partners for the development of central Leppävaara through an open two-phase application procedure.

The planning reservations will be granted based on qualitative criteria: In the first phase, the applicant or consortium of applicants must meet the minimum requirements set by the city. In the second phase, the city will negotiate the granting of planning reservations based on how the competition team of the applicant or consortium of applicants succeeds in the idea competition held alongside the application procedure.

The aim of the concurrent international, two-phase ‘Leppävaaran keskus - Lepuski 2.O’ idea competition is to find an overall plan for the competition area that will steer planning, implementation and construction in the area for the next 10 to 20 years. The overall plan should be of high quality in terms of architecture, urban structure and functionality, and it should increase the recognisability and attractiveness of the area. The idea competition is organised in cooperation with the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA) in accordance with the association’s competition rules. The goals and principles of the planning of the area have been derived from the Espoo Story, with particular emphasis on resident- and customer-oriented planning and Espoo’s carbon neutrality goals. 

Based on the winning idea or ideas, an overall plan for the area, ‘Lepuski 2.O’, will be compiled. This plan will include a proposal for team-specific planning reservation areas and principles for further development specified on the basis of the competition.

Among those who apply for a planning reservation, one or more partners will be selected with whom the city will negotiate the granting of planning reservations. The aim is to eventually hand over the plot to the party that is granted the planning reservation.

The applicant or consortium of applicants who want to apply for a planning reservation must submit their application and the documents required in the brochure materials by email to kirjaamo@espoo.fi by 15:45 on 5 January 2023.
