Environmental protection regulations

The environmental protection regulations aim to prevent environmental pollution. Approved by the City Council, the regulations complement the existing environmental legislation in Espoo. The most commonly used regulations concern, among other things, noisy activities, waste treatment, dust abatement and wastewater treatment.

The City of Espoo’s environmental protection regulations apply throughout the city area. They must be observed by everyone in the city, regardless of their place of residence. The implementation of the regulations is supervised by the Environment and Building Control Department, which must be notified of certain activities that cause environmental pollution.

The City of Espoo’s environmental protection regulations entered into force on 1 March 2005. On 24 April 2017, the City Council approved the updated environmental protection regulations, which entered into force on 1 June 2017.
