Series of events: Getting to know Espoo Master Plan 2060

Come and join us in hearing, discussing and influencing what Espoo will be like in 2060! This series of events will introduce you to a draft of the Espoo Master Plan 2060 and give you all the information you will need to comment on it.

A master plan set for 2060 is being prepared for Espoo. All Espoo residents can review the draft plan and comment on it in the period from 3 June to 3 September. At this stage of the planning process, many things remain undecided, which means that this is your opportunity to have your say! During the summer, we will organise 11 events where we will examine the draft plan together and give the attendees all the information they might need for commenting on the plan. One of the events will be held in Swedish and one in English, the rest of the events will be in Finnish. The future of Espoo concerns us all, and you are welcome to contribute to it! Do you have any questions you would like an expert to answer? We are already collecting residents’ questions about the draft master plan.

3 June 2024 Remote information session: Getting to know Espoo Master Plan 2060

What is a master plan and why is one being made? How would the draft plan change Espoo? How do I read the plan map and give feedback? Attend the remote information session to learn the basics and get answers for the most frequently asked questions on an Espoo-wide level. The event will be recorded and the recording will be subtitled in Finnish, Swedish and English.

4 June–19 June 2024: Seven area-specific events: Getting to know Espoo Master Plan 2060

How does the draft plan affect my surroundings? How do I read the plan map and give feedback? We will organise seven area-specific events where the draft plan will be presented from the perspective of your area and you get to meet the plan’s designers face-to-face and they will tell you everything you need to know to comment on the draft plan. The events will be in Finnish, but you can ask questions and discuss the topic in Swedish and English as well.

Espoo Day

Espoo Master Plan 2060 is part of the celebrations for Espoo Day on 31 August 2024 at Exhibition Centre WeeGee, which will have free admission on that day. A pop-up exhibition exploring the theme of Espoo 2060 will be displayed at the Espoo City Museum. The exhibition encourages people to consider what Espoo could look like in 2060. On Espoo Day, designers of the master plan will attend the exhibition and people can ask them about the future of Espoo and the draft master plan. During the day, children will be able to build an Espoo of the future with Legos in a workshop led by School of Architecture for Children Arkki in the WeeGee lobby from 12.00 to 16.00. You can come to the event when it suits you best.

In addition to the 11 open public events, we will organise workshops and other opportunities for participation for residents’ associations, schoolchildren, the Youth Council and Espoo residents with immigrant backgrounds.

An invitation-only workshop for residents’ associations will be held in Otaniemi in late summer. Invitations will be sent to the associations by email. For more information about the event, send an email to mervi.romppanen@espoo.fi

What is it all about?

The future of Espoo concerns us all. The master plan being prepared is set for 2060. It will help us guide Espoo’s growth in a sustainable manner in the coming decades.

The master plan is a tool that can be used to prepare for population growth and large-scale traffic arrangements. It can also be used to ensure that Espoo remains nature-oriented in the future.

You can comment on the draft plan in the period 3 June-3 September 2024. At the preparation stage, many things are still undecided, which means that this is your opportunity to have your say!

Preparing the master plan requires many years of work, and all Espoo residents can contribute to it. Based on the feedback on the draft, experts working on the master plan will prepare a more detailed plan, a plan proposal. The estimate is that residents will get to comment on the plan proposal by 2025–2026.
