In the workshop, organised by the City of Espoo and Muoviamo, plastic is processed from waste into raw material and from raw material into finished products, such as works of art, utility items, or jewellery. Plastic is crushed, melted, pressed into moulds, ironed and weaved. You can also invent and experiment with new ways of working on plastic!
We all know the problems associated with plastic: littering and the use of non-renewable natural resources. But not everyone knows how sustainable plastic can be: its lightness reduces transport emissions, its durability reduces accidents, its density reduces food waste and its recyclability reduces the need for new natural resources. The reason for this may be that a dirty plastic wrapping in a nearby park is easy to notice, but we rarely get to see how recycled plastic is transformed into a new object. Except now, as we welcome you to our plastic workshop to learn more about the material.
You can bring your own clean polypropylene to the workshop, but you can also show up empty-handed. Polypropylene can be identified by the PP 05 triangle symbol, usually located on the bottom of the product.
Participating in the workshop is free of charge, but the workshop does not cover accident insurance for participants. Participants are provided with protective equipment. The workshops are suitable for people aged 13 or over; younger children can participate by bringing plastic for processing at the workshop.
