Espoon keskus is a growing urban centre and the western gateway to the capital region. The district currently has some 25,000 residents, and the number is expected to reach 35,000 by 2060. The multifaceted, unique Vanha-Espoo area comprises a compact urban centre, historic cultural landscapes, village communities and numerous green areas.
The journey from the Helsinki Central Railway Station to Espoon keskus takes about 25 minutes by train. Helsinki Airport can be reached in about 45 minutes by train. Another urban centre, Leppävaara, is a 13-minute train ride away, and it takes 17 minutes to reach Matinkylä by bus.
