Current events and partnerships
This year, New Year 2026 will be celebrated in Espoo under the glow of the Northern Lights as Swiss artist Dan Acher's magical light artwork Borealis brings the magic of the north to Tapiola sky. This joint celebration for all city residents will be held in the centre of Tapiola on Wed 31 December 2025 from 17.00 to 22.00.
Espoo is an active event partner. Marketing and event cooperation will continue in 2026 with Aalto University, AYY and Kiekko-Espoo. The event partners will continue to be Weekend Festival, Visio Festival and Emma Gaala. New partner events next summer are Alvarin Kesäjuhla in Otaniemi and the Venturo Summer Hub in Tapiola.
Aalto University and the City of Espoo are organizing Aalto Ahaa public lectures open to everyone in the new Marsio building in Otaniemi. The lectures for the autumn term 2025 and the Aalto University Junior Science Theatre events aimed at schoolchildren have been held. Both the lectures and the events will continue in 2026. We will announce them once the schedules are confirmed.
Espoo has numerous attractive events, from festivals to sporting events, throughout the year. The city's sports halls host national-level ice hockey, floorball and basketball, among others. Located in Tapionpuisto Tapiola, architect Matti Suuronen's Venturo house is a utopian architectural and design destination as well as a space for art, science and the future. The Venturo Studio is an urban culture project launched by City Events Espoo, and it showcases art and culture in a central location in the heart of Tapiola. The Venturo is closed at wintertime.
The Independence Day concert, which has become an important tradition for the citizens, was organized at the Espoo Metro Arena on Saturday, 6 December 2025. The program combined classical and popular music. The stars of the event were Suvi Teräsniska, Yasmine Yamajako and Tapiola High School Chamber Choir.
