6Aika: Low-carbon transport in mobility hubs
Low-carbon transport in mobility hubs is a 6Aika project funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The activities of 6Aika projects are based on extensive cooperation. The participating cities (Espoo, Helsinki, Vantaa, Oulu, Turku and Tampere) solve urban development challenges in cooperation with each other and with companies, city residents and the research sector.
The low-carbon transport in mobility hubs project develops solutions to make the everyday life of Espoo residents easier through low-carbon, sustainable mobility, clean energy and circular economy. New transport services can effectively reduce CO2 emissions from transport and, at the same time, create new business models.
Mobility hubs are transport hubs that see a large number of passengers. They offer different kinds of transport services and strong public transport. Transport in Espoo is based on such mobility hubs.
Goals
The goal of the project is to reduce transport emissions and promote sustainable modes of transport, such as walking, cycling and public transport. In accordance with the Espoo Story, the project will contribute to the achievement of the Carbon Neutral Espoo 2030 goal and the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by 2025.
Actions
The Low-carbon Transport in Mobility Hubs project cooperates with companies to improve their business opportunities by developing, for example:
- new mobility services and travel chains
- the parking system
- electronic vehicles
- robot buses.
Schedule
The project started on 1 August 2019 and ends on 31 January 2022.
