Homeschooling

The knowledge and skills corresponding to the primary and lower secondary education syllabus may also be acquired through homeschooling. In this case, the municipality of residence monitors the progress of the studies, while the guardian is responsible for organising the studies.

A child or young person may transfer to homeschooling by notification from their guardian. A homeschooled child or young person is not registered as a pupil at any comprehensive school in Espoo and is therefore not entitled to municipal services or benefits, such as remedial or special needs education or other student welfare services. The guardian is responsible for organising the studies, acquiring textbooks and other learning materials or tools, and ensuring that the child completes their compulsory education.

Martinkallion koulu has been assigned the special responsibility of monitoring the progress of homeschooled children and young people in compulsory education. Martinkallion koulu also guides young people in applying for upper secondary education.
