Free lunch at Espoo residents’ parks
Free park lunches will be organised in July at the residents’ parks of Latokaski, Matinkylä, Suvela, Tapiola and Viherkallio.
Latokaski, Matinkylä, Suvela, Tapiola and Viherkallio residents’ parks will offer free hot meals from 1 to 31 July 2026. Meals will be served to under 16-year-old park visitors at 11:30. If food is left over, it can be served to other park visitors.
Bring your own bowl and cutlery – food is available to the first 150 people
Park meals are free of charge, and signing up is not required. However, you do need to bring your own bowl and cutlery with you. It is recommended to use plastic or other non-breakable materials.
Each park will have food for the first 150 people. You should also have your own snacks with you, especially on sunny days, as there may not be enough food for everyone.
Check the menu and ingredients online
Our menu contains children’s favourites that are suitable for a park environment. Drinking water will also be available. For example, soups and casseroles will be on the menu.
One dish will be available each day, and food will be served for as long as it lasts. Our foods do not contain lactose, pork or egg. Vegetarian food will be served on 2–3 days a week. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to cater for special dietary needs.
You can check the menu and ingredients through Espoo Catering’s Aromi service.(external link, opens in a new window) The list of ingredients in each day’s meal is also available in the parks.
Please note that food cannot be served if its temperature is below 60 degrees Celsius. Our staff have been instructed to follow the self-monitoring plan and hygiene guidelines. They will monitor the food service temperature. Unfortunately, visitors cannot take leftover food with them.
Indoor facilities are closed during mealtime
Our park staff start serving lunch at 11:30. Indoor facilities will be closed 15 minutes before mealtime, and there will be an announcement to inform park visitors. The serving of food will end by 12:30.
Park lunches are intended for families and schoolchildren, not for groups of children.
Instructions for visitors:
- Bring your own bowl, spoon, water bottle or cup and a side dish (e.g. bread).
- You can find the menu and a list of ingredients on the park’s notice board and on Espoo Catering’s Aromi online service.
- If you need to use the toilet, please do so before the meal service, if possible.
- Our parks do not have hand washing facilities, but hand sanitiser is available.
- Before lunch, we will gather together in a circle and then form a line at the food serving station.
- Our staff will serve the food into children’s own bowls. Choose a suitable amount of food to minimise food waste.
- Meals are eaten outdoors in the park area, not on the fixed play equipment. Large toys and ball and racket games are not available during mealtime.
- Please sort your waste and put your rubbish in the bin. This will keep the park nice and clean for play.
- Put your dirty dishes in a plastic bag, for example.
- We do not have dishwashing facilities in our parks. Do not rinse your dishes in the park’s toilet or kitchen facilities to avoid clogging the pipes.
- We will make an announcement when all food has been served.
Come and enjoy summertime lunch at Espoo’s residents’ park!
