Private day care allowance
The private day care allowance is a form of support for private early childhood education. You may be eligible for it if your child, who is under the school age, attends a private day care centre, group family day care or family day care or if the child is looked after by a caregiver hired by your family. The allowance is applied for from Kela.
You may receive private day care allowance if your child, who is under the school age, attends a private day care centre, group family day care or family day care. You may also get private day care allowance if you have hired for your child a caregiver approved by the municipality. The amount of private day care allowance is affected by your child’s age and the form of early childhood education.
The private day care allowance is child-specific. It includes the care allowance, a care supplement dependent on the family’s income and an Espoo supplement. If more than one of your children attend early childhood education, you can also apply for the sibling supplement in addition to the private day care allowance. The private day care allowance is also available for the early childhood education of children of pre-primary age.
You cannot get the private day care allowance if you already receive a parental allowance for the same child or if the child attends early childhood education provided in some other way. Please note that a child for whom you get the private day care allowance cannot be given a place in a municipal club. The private day care allowance cannot be obtained for early childhood education provided with a service voucher or as an outsourced service.
The private day care allowance in usually applied for from Kela, but in certain cases the allowance is applied for from the City of Espoo. Both Kela and the City of Espoo pay the private day care allowance directly to the service provider or the caregiver the family have hired to look after their child.
Please note that Kela will recover any paid excess allowance from the child's guardian. Always inform Kela when your child's private early childhood education ends.
