URHEA sports and activity

Enrolling in the 7th grade and applying for weighted-curriculum education in sports and activity (URHEA) takes place through Wilma between January 8th and 15th, 2025 by filling in the form Application for 7th grade of Comprehensive School. 

If you are unable to use Wilma, you can fill in the paper form. The paper form must be submitted to your child's current school in Espoo by 15 January, 2025 at the latest. In case your child is attending a school in another municipality or a private school, the paper must be submitted to the Finnish Basic Education Unit. The return address is informed in the form.

Basic part of the entrance examination is held on 29 January 2025 at Leppävaara sports hall. Applicants participate in the basic part as follows:

• at 8-12 am > Applicants whose surname begins with letters A-L 
• at 12:30–4:30 pm > Applicants whose surname begins with letters M-Ö.

Applicants will not receive a separate invitation. Applicants must register to the officials at the sports hall. Applicants must bring an indoor gym outfit and indoor gym shoes, a water bottle and their own snacks.

A reserve day will be organized for applicants who have fallen ill and are unable to participate in the entrance examination. In order to participate in a reserve day, it is required to contact the school providing URHEA sports and activity education before the examination starts and present a statement on the illness. 

Only applicants who have been ill on the actual examination day and have not been able to take part in the examination can participate in the reserve day. Examination cannot be split over two days. The applicant and guardian must assess in advance whether the applicant is in good condition (e.g. injuries) to be able to complete the tests.

Applicants are admitted based on an entrance examination. The entrance examination consists of two sections:

1. A basic section
2. A sport section

In order to be admitted to weighted-curriculum education in sports and physical activity (URHEA), an applicant must achieve the minimum total score of the entrance examination. Applicants are admitted in the order of their total score in the entrance examination. If two or more applicants have the same total score, their order will be determined by drawing lots.

Applicants living in Espoo are a priority. If there are places available after all qualified applicants who are Espoo residents are admitted, applicants from other municipalities can be admitted in the order of their total score in the entrance examination.

URHEA sports and activity is provided in grades 7-9 as follows:

• Leppävaaran koulu: 48 study places per grade.
• Tiistilän koulu: 24 study places per grade.
