Cable and pipe information service

You can obtain a cable and pipe report through Espoo’s online service(external link) (in Finnish and Swedish). The service is free of charge.

In order to obtain the report, you will have to clearly define the working area on the map through the permit service. If necessary, you must provide any work-related plans (e.g. heating, water and ventilation plan or drilling plan). When carrying out work related to water services, you will need to provide a connection point statement from HSY (Helsinki Region Environmental Services) as well as the connection date.

You must submit your application no later than three days in advance, depending on the area. At least one workday has to be reserved for preparing a report for a small area and at least three workdays for larger areas.

The report will only be valid for 14 days from the date of issue because the location of cables and pipes may change rapidly. The report is intended for single use and it only applies to the working area in question.

When applying for a cable and pipe report, you can also order an on-site showing through Espoo’s permit service. It will be carried out in the active working area to prevent damage to cables and pipes. The on-site showing will be carried out based on the requested report. The service is free of charge.

The showing will only cover the pipes and cables presented on the map provided by the cable and pipe information service. The person who ordered the showing or their representative must be present during the showing. The person accepting the showing must sign off the work.

If a cable or pipe is damaged in Espoo or Kauniainen, you must immediately inform the owner of the cable/pipe to have the damage repaired. You must also contact Espoo’s cable and pipe information service (tel. +358 43 8257088) to determine responsibilities.

Any underground cables, pipes and structures installed or moved during construction must be mapped so that they can be added to the cable and pipe map maintained by the City of Espoo. You can request a mapping from the City Surveying unit by sending an email to johto.kartoitus@espoo.fi one workday before the intended date of mapping.

Mapping can also be carried out by some other land surveying professional. The mapping information must be sent by email to johto.kartoitus@espoo.fi in the format specified in Espoo’s mapping instructions (Johtojen maastokartoitus, in Finnish).

In the city’s own projects, mapping information must first be submitted to the project supervisor for checking.

Public pipes built for HSY Water Services must be measured in accordance with the instructions given by HSY Water Services.

Cables and structures built for Caruna Oy must be measured in accordance with Caruna Oy’s instructions.
