Siiri Alanko
Siiri Alanko, violin
I was born into a family of musicians and have known since a very early age what the life of an orchestra musician is like. I took up the violin at age five, although apparently I had declared to my parents at the age of two that I wanted to become a violinist when I grew up. So I grew up surrounded by music; in addition to playing the violin, I have sung in various choirs. I spent much of my childhood and adolescence in the Children’s Chorus of the Finnish National Opera and even appeared as one of the Three Boys in The Magic Flute. Opera remains one of my favourite art forms.
I graduated with a Master’s degree from the Academy of the Arts in Berlin in summer 2022, and the three years I spent at the Chamber Music Institute in Edsberg were also particularly important for my musical evolution. I was able to reinforce my bond with chamber music and playing in a chamber ensemble, and I am very happy to be able to do this as my job now with the Tapiola Sinfonietta. Apart from the orchestra, my work as a musician includes independent practice and playing chamber music whenever I get the chance.
In my spare time, I read a lot, and I also like to do things with my hands, whether crafts or caring for house plants, or cooking or baking.
