The themes of residents’ evenings are based on the city’s needs and residents’ wishes. In the autumn, the city will organise at least two area-specific residents’ evenings.

The concept of a residents’ evening focusing on just one area has been developed together with the residents. Themes can include, for example, planning, schools, day-care centres or employment in the area.

In March 2023, the City Planning Department organised a residents’ evening regarding the planning of Suur-Espoonlahti.

Similar events will be organised in Tapiola on 4 September and Leppävaara on 3 October to discuss urban planning and current plans. A residents’ evening will also be organised in central Espoo in late October or early November.

The area-specific residents’ evenings give us a chance to discuss, for example, the impact of the master plan on the area and hear residents’ views on current plans,” explains Interaction and Inclusion Specialist Tuuli Aaltio from the City Planning Department.

Esko Uotila, leader of the Asukkaiden Espoo (“Residents’ Espoo”) group that promotes the development of the urban environment, services and resident participation, attended a residents’ evening in Espoonlahti.

“The concept turned out to be a good one, and these kinds of events should be organised in every greater area at least once a year. I would also want each area to have its own contact person in the city organisation.”

The date of the area-specific residents’ evening in Tapiola has been changed; it will be organised on 4 September.

Leppävaara’s area-specific residents’ evening has been confirmed; it will be organised on 3 October.

Keski-Espoo’s area-specific residents’ evening will be organised in October or November; no exact date has been set.
